St-Clément Farm

St-Clément Farm

2011

The story of Ferme St-Clément began in 1800 when the Daoust ancestors crossed Lake St-Louis to visit farms in Beauharnois and finally settle there. Ferme St-Clément has purebred animals since Edmour, third generation to operate the farm, acquired it. Jean-Paul Daoust took over in 1955. Jacques and Marie-Claude Daoust became owners in the 80’s and since January 2012, Pascale and her partner Julien are the new owners, representing the sixth generation on the family farm. Pascale and Julien are in charge of the whole operation, but Jacques and Marie-Claude remain present to help out, which is always appreciated. The St-Clément herd consists of 44 cows in lactation and in 2011, the production average was at 8199kg of milk for a BCA of 241-241-245. The herd’s classification shows 8 VG, 25 GP and 11G. The herd participates in agricultural exhibitions such as Ormstown, the International Dairy Showcase, Expo-Quebec and Toronto. Pascale has also worked many times on exhibits at shows and also at prestigious Ayrshire sales. The cows are kept in a tie-stalls barn; the dry cows, the heifers and the calves are housed in a free-stall barn. One of the greatest successes and one of their best source of pride for Ferme St-Clément is to have been the first in Canada to maintain a production average of 9,000kg during five consecutive years. The Daoust family did not hesitate to use embryo transfers to improve its herd. Cows such as St-Martin Everest ET EX-90, Desblay Precibelle EX-90, Blackaddar Peace 2 and St-Clément Falida TB-85 left a total of 55 descendents at the farm. Falida is the dam of St-Clément Edmour, a son of B-Jurist famous for transmitting excellent components to his daughters, as well as very good feet and legs. St-Clément Fabio is another proven bull, also son of B-Jurist, very good at improving production. These two bulls belong to Semex Alliance. As far as culture goes, the farm consists of 500 acres, 150 of which are cultivated in corn, 150 in soy, 70 in grains and the balance is hay. For the Daoust family, being recognized as Master Breeder represents the result of relentless work and of course, great pride; this title will also allow the herd to develop even faster in the future. No doubt, with the arrival of the new generation at the farm, the St-Clément herd will continue to improve, progress and obtain numerous other successes in the future. Ayrshire Canada congratulates Ferme St-Clément for its title of Master Breeder
