Bylaws Master Breeder

The Master Breeder award is the highest award from Ayrshire Canada. It is awarded to breeders who produce cattle that excel for both conformation and production.  It takes years of successful breeding to achieve.

The Master Breeder Award is presented to purebred Ayrshire breeders that fulfilling all Award requirements.  The Master Breeder Award can be received once every ten (10) years.

In order to be eligible, the animals must bear the prefix of the applicant and be purebred as per Ayrshire Canada’s Bylaws (Female 87,5% or greater, Male 93,75% or greater). Animals must also meet both production and type requirements among the seven (7) categories listed below.

The applicant must be a member in good standing of the Ayrshire Breeders’ Association of Canada and must supply to the Ayrshire Canada Association a list of the animals bred by him/her and which have completed at least one publishable lactation in the last ten (10) years, and which meet the requirements of at least one of the seven (7) categories listed. The applicant must also supply a copy of the herd’s annual report issued by a milk recording agency for the last four (4) years.

CATEGORIES:

  1. A cow classified excellent with at least one lactation with BCA’s for milk, fat and protein equal to or greater than the national breed’s average during the year that the record was made and the average deviations in BCA for milk, fat and protein for all lactations is equal to or greater than the rolling herd average. (1 point)

OR

A cow classified Excellent with minimal EBV’s of 350 for milk, 15 for fat and 12 for protein. (1 point)

  • A cow classified Very Good with at least one lactation with BCA’s for milk, fat and protein at least 20 points above the breed’s national average the year that the record was made and the aver- age deviations in BCA for milk, fat and protein for all lactations is equal to or greater than the rolling herd average. (1 point)

OR

A cow classified Very Good with minimal EBV’s of 450 for milk, 20 for fat and 15 for protein. (1 point)

  • A cow classified Good Plus 83 – 84 with at least one lactation with BCA’s for milk, fat and protein at least 40 points above the national breed’s average the year that the record was made and the average deviations in BCA for milk, fat and protein is equal to or greater than the rolling herd average. (1 point)

OR

A cow classified Good Plus 83 -84 with minimal EBV’s of 550 for milk, 25 for fat and 20 for protein.     (1 point)

4) Lifetime producers

A cow with a production seal of 60,000 kg (1 point), 70,000 kg (2 points), 80,000 kg (3 points) 90,000 kg (4 points), 100,000 kg (5 points). Every additional 10,000 kg of milk will earn 1 point.

In addition, if a cow presenting such lifetime production is classified Excellent she earns 3 additional points.  If a cow is classified Very Good, she earns 2 additional points.

Ex: A cow classified Excellent with a lifetime production of 60,000 kg of milk is awarded 4 points.

  • Star Brood Cow, 1 point per Star up to 5 points.
  • A bull with the most recent official sire proof placing in the top 25% for the Lifetime Profit Index will earn 1 point.

In order to earn the Master Breeder Award, the number of points earned must be higher or equal to 80% of the average number of cows included in the rolling herd average in the official program of a recognized milk recording agency over the last four (4) years.

A minimum of 35 points is required to obtain a Master Breeder Award

To be eligible for the Award an animal must have completed one publishable lactation over the last ten (10) years, where the national breed’s average is available.

Ex: Eligible for the 2019, application are the animals which have completed their lactations between 2009 and 2018.

Classification as of December 31st of the Award application year would be used to calculate points.

Ex: For 2019 applicants, the classification used would be: December 31st, 2019.

Ayrshire Canada will present a maximum of 4 Master Breeder award per year.
