Birkdale

2003

Birkdale Farm began in 1920. The founders, Guy’s grandparents, immigrated from Birkdale in England, to Comox on Vancouver Island. The first Ayrshires arrived at the farm in 1950. The business objective has always been production with functional conformation. Today we can see the results of its judicious crossbreeding. The Birghdale herd is especially known for the “Countess” family. All present members of this family are descendants of Birghdale Countess 8, EX-4E-2*. She herself had a lifetime production of over 73,500 kg of milk ! Her most famous descendant is, no doubt, Countess 24, EX-4E. She has produced 73,331 kg in 6 lactations. She also has two proven sons at Semex Alliance, Copper and Tradition. Countess 13 is another example of production and longevity, one of Countess 8's daughters, who had a lifetime production of over 100,000 kg of milk in 9 lactations. Balanced breeding showing longevity and production, that’s Birkdale Farm’s trademark
