Margot Farm

2016

Ferme Margot’s history began on the 29th day of April 1976, when Marcel and Marguerite Grandjean left Switzerland to come settle, with their four young children, in Ste-Perpétue, Québec. They purchased at the time a modest farm, which grew significantly bigger over the years. These days, this business has 300 head of Ayrshire cattle and owns 865 acres of land, including 700 acres of crop land. In 1989, following his studies at the ITA in St-Hyacinthe, Philippe became co-owner with his father, Marcel. The third generation – Frédéric and Nicolas, Philippe’s two sons – is currently beginning to get passionately involved at the farm. The herd’s average is approximately 8,000 kg of milk, with 4.1% fat and 3.6% protein. Classification is as follow : 14 EX, 66 VG, 55 GP, and 4 G. Their breeding philosophy has always been to select for longevity, udder quality, and feet and legs quality, which is what has enabled the Margot herd to earn its second Master Breeder title. Several cows obtained a lot of points, such as: Margot Vicky EX-10E-92, Margot Luciolle EX-3E-90, Margot Championne EX-4E-90, Margot Avalanche EX-4E-90 3*, and Margot Charade EX 8*. These cows all represent very well the type of cows they look for at Ferme Margot. Yet, what they are most proud of is, assuredly, to have bred the famous sire Margot Calimero, who still has a major impact within the Ayrshire breed and who has sired numerous show champions, including the magnificent Margot Patagonie EX-3E-94, Grand Champion at the 2016 World Dairy Expo in Madison, a remarkable exploit of which the Grandjean Family is extremely proud. Ayrshire Canada sincerely congratulates Ferme Margot for their Master Breeder Award.
