Lessard et Fils Inc. Farm

2016

Within the Ayrshire breed, the prefix Lessard is synonymous with quality and breeding excellence. It is thus not surprising to see this herd be awarded, for a second time, the Master Breeder Award. This farming business began in 1972, when Léon and Nicole purchased Leon’s family farm and acquired 2 purebred animals to add to the mixed Ayrshire-Holstein herd. Their love for work, family, and cows constitutes a daily motivation for this family of 4 children: Carine, Louis, Lucie et Laurie. Louis joined the business after completing his agricultural training in St-Anselme and became a shareholder in 2002, hence becoming the 9th farming generation on this farm. Léon and Nicole are still currently active in the business and provide precious help. Louis’ spouse, Véronique, also works on the farm. Together, they have 2 children,  Philippe et Claudérik, and another one on the way, due in May. The herd has 125 head of cattle, including 60 milking cows. The current Ayrshire production is 10,200 kg, and the classification for the Ayrshire and Holstein herd is : 4 EX, 40 VG, and 20 GP. Animals which have contributed the most to the obtention of this Master Breeder Award are: Lessard Ripken Jojo EX 91-6E with a lifetime production of 151,018 kg of milk, Lessard Money Idole EX 94-7E 3*’s descendants, her daughter  Lessard Patrick Idalia EX 92-2E; and her grand-daughter Lessard Trident Irondelle Ex 94-2E 3*. Let’s not forget, also, famous sire Lessard Jumper’s dam, Lessard Trident Jello Ex 90 3*. Finally, another cow which distinguished itself in show rings is Lessard BBK Pasta EX 95-2E 2*. For Louis and Léon, this 2nd Master Breeder Award is an enormous source of pride and a great success. This award motivates them to continue to improve and push further in their quest to breed exceptional cows. They wish to continue their balanced breeding to obtain animals with good conformation that will produce for a long time in their barn, while staying in good health. Ayrshire Canada offers its most sincere congratulations to Ferme Lessard for its Master Breeder Award.
