The Ayrshire Award of Merit is given each year to recognise the outstanding contribution that an individual has made for the Ayrshire breed. The winner is selected by the previous winners of the award.
We have many Ayrshire activities every year, shows, sales and meetings. This year’s winner participates in all aspects of the breed. When we need a sale consignment – we get one, when we need an ad -he gives us one, when we need someone for a committee – he participates, National Director? – he’s been one.
Not every breeder has a herd that is ranked top in Canada . This breeder’s herd is known throughout the world. Production awards were where it all started and then winners at the big shows, Top brood cows, influential bulls and a return to production awards having the highest herd average in Canada last year.
Promoting Ayrshire cattle in Canada and around the world has been his passion. He has diligently let the international dairy community and dairy industry leaders know the tremendous qualities that the Ayrshire cow has to offer. He is respected internationally and in Canada as a source of info rmation, promotion and commitment by the leaders and management of other breed associations. He has been a genetic leader to the Ayrshire breed throughout the world and has set numerous goals and standards for each and every one of us whether it is in the show-ring or striving for top production. He has proved that the Ayrshire cow can do it all.
His passion, leadership and forward thinking are what this award epitomises. Even though his herd is dispersed, we will all feel the impact of these great genetics even more since he has made them available to us. It will allow us a genetic base to create and reach new goals in our own herds. He encompasses everything good about Ayrshire. It is with deep admiration and the utmost respect that we honour this year’s Award of Merit winner, Mr. Norman Boswall.
